In a documentary published by British news source Channel 4, Lisa Stephens, a Nigerian woman from Plateau State, described a terrifying attack on her family.
The footage, which has gone viral on the internet, is a snippet of a documentary titled “Investigating a Village of Widows in Nigeria Amid Fears of a ‘Christian Genocide,'” and it focuses on how violence affects communities in some regions of the nation. Stephens described how armed assailants allegedly broke into her house in the middle of the night in a moving recital.
She clarified that the attackers damaged the door before forcing their way inside.
She said in part, “I was asleep at night when we heard gunshots, I tried to wake my husband but he would not wake up. My baby was breastfeeding at the time, I tried to wake my husband be he didn’t respond.
“When they entered our house they began to shake the door, when they couldn’t open the door, they used a knife to cut it and found the latch. They came in and found me breastfeeding my baby of ten months.
“They seized the baby and sliced him in two with a knife. After that they shot my husband and then pierced him with a knife,” she added.
Plateau state in recent weeks
Stephens’ tale is a sad reflection of recent insecurity issues ravaging the city of Jos and other towns in Plateau state. Recall that ENigeria Newspaper reported that gunmen carried out a deadly assault on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on March 29, which fell on Easter Sunday, killing scores of people in the process. A youth leader revealed that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles and wore military-style outfits to carry out what he described as a ‘coordinated and deceptive’ attack.
In respone, five suspects in the March 2026 murders in Angwa Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, have been charged by the Plateau State Government.
The suspects were detained by the Department of State Services between April 3 and April 10, 2026, and they have since been charged with crimes such as criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism and other similar offenses, according to a statement provided to journalists on Wednesday.
It was claimed that the accused individuals namely Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, also known as Auwalu Dogo, Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Yaroro, and others plotted the attack.
