Following outrage regarding a particular poor road condition, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has started the repair of the Agbado-Ijoko road, which was originally scheduled to be finished in June.
On Tuesday, a report by the Foundation of Investigative Journalism, and has seen by ENigeria Newspaper, learned that the state administration had started rebuilding the road by erecting a sign at the Rafco, Opeilu, division.
The information board states that the project will be finished in eighteen months and is being carried out by the state’s Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
The report also recorded that Craneburg Construction is carrying out the “Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute, Yakoyo Road” project.
Local resident Oluwadamilola Fijabi informed journalists that although he initially noticed the information board on Saturday, the reconstruction has not still started as at Wednesday afternoon.
“There is no indication of granite, gravel, sand, or anything on the route from Opeilu to Agbado as of today, Wednesday,” Fijabi was quoted to have said.
He also pointed out that most locals don’t know when the rehabilitation will start and that the Opeilu-Agbado road is still in the same state as it has always been.
Gov. Dapo Abiodun in recent weeks
Gov. Dapo Abiodun has been on the frontline of major infrastructure in the state in these latter stages of his administration. Just after he commissioned the Gateway International Airport in Iperu and unveiled a new state-owned airline, Gateway Air, the 5.5-kilometer Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode–Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road has been put into service by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, who also announced plans to start rebuilding the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road in Abeokuta.
During the road’s commissioning ceremony, the governor revealed that the project is a part of his administration’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure and stimulating economic activity throughout the state. The route passes through the Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas.
Gov. Dapo Abiodun has also recently been adopted as a consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District. The governor, who has been nursing a senatorial ambition as earlier reported by ENigeria Newspaper, was adopted as the candidate of the party at the caucus meeting of the constituency, held at Adeola Odutola Hall, Ijebu Ode.
