Concerns regarding Nigeria 2027 elections process have prompted representatives of former vice president Atiku Abubakar to flag Nigeria’s elections and speak with top members of the US House Democratic caucus.
The Washington-based lobbying firm recently engaged by the former vice-president, Von Batten-Montague-York, made a post on X about the meeting, noting that the talks were held remotely.
“Today, a high-level, senior staff congressional meeting was convened remotely between @HouseDemocrats staff and representatives of former Nigerian Vice President and current presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s (@atiku) campaign,” the statement read.
“The meeting addressed serious concerns regarding 2027 elections integrity in Nigeria, including credible allegations that the current government is working to circumvent the will of the Nigerian people through electoral manipulation.
“Participants also examined broader concerns surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (@officialABAT) governing trajectory, including actions perceived as consolidating political power in a manner that could steer Nigeria toward a de facto one-party state.”
In order to safeguard and improve his “reputational standing” in the US, Atiku recently engaged the US firm. On March 9 and 10, 2026, respectively, Nigerian politician Fabiyi Oladimeji and the firm’s managing partner Karl Von Batten signed the contract.
The action was taken in response to mounting international alarm over Nigeria’s increasing number of electoral fraud allegations. The company stated in a statement on X that it would now expose Nigerian election officials and anybody involved in election manipulation.
The company stated that it will suggest international sanctions, such as asset freezes and travel restrictions, for the electoral offenders to the US president’s office and Congress.
2027 elections integrity under INEC
Recall that, in less than a year before the 2027 elections, there have been calls for the removal of INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, who has been accused of partisan politics after his old tweets on X supporting the current president resurfaced. Although the commission defended it and claimed it was orchestrated by digital impostors, investigations by ENigeria Newspaper showed that the digital footprints confirmed that the account belonged to the INEC Chairman.
Two weeks ago, the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) stormed the INEC headquarters and asked for the removal of the INEC Chairman. Yesterday, a group of concerned youths also protested against the continuity of the INEC chairman, stressing that the 2027 elections under his watch cannot be fully trusted.
