The Delta State Police Command has detained Chukwuemeka Destiny, a 31-year-old man for reportedly trying to abduct his aunt, who reared him since he was five years old.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, paraded the suspect, Chukwemeka Destiny, on Saturday and said that Destiny had given N900,000 to individuals he suspected of kidnapping the victim.

Bright claims that before moving out without keeping in touch with the family, Destiny stayed with the aunt for ten years, from the age of five to fifteen.

Edafe said,“All of a sudden something just came up to his mind that let me kidnap my auntie who trained me, who saw me through school, and that was what he did.”

According to him, Destiny paid the potential kidnappers N700,000 after making an initial deposit of N200,000 but the individuals Destiny approached proved not to be kidnappers, the operation fell apart. Instead of actually kidnapping the aunt, they lured him in, used him as bait, and turned him over to the authorities.

“Unknown to him that the people he contacted were not kidnappers. They rather used him as bait, got him and handed him over to the police thereby saving the life of his auntie,” Edafe said.

Chukwuemeka Destiny himself, after admitting to the guilt, attributed the act to Devil, saying he did not know what led to his wanting to kidnapp his aunt who had raised him for ten years.

“Sincerely speaking to you, I am guilty of what really happened. I don’t know what came over me. I can’t tell. It is devil’s work”, he said.

The aunt informed reporters that she was surprised to find out about the scheme, describing Destiny as the son of her older sister. She continued by saying that although she occasionally spotted Destiny around the neighborhood, he had not come back to see her since leaving the family at the age of fifteen.

When asked if her nephew should be treated with pity or if the law should be followed, the aunt was clear-cut.

“Anything they know to do such people, you should do it to him,” she affirmed.

Records of Chukwuemeka Destiny like cases

According to Edafe, the scheme of Chukwuemeka Destiny involves a troubling history of violence against people who offer assistance to others.

“We’ve had cases where workers killed their employer. We’ve had cases where security men killed their bosses just because they want to cut away their jewelry.

“People like this, see, without cases where they carry their loved ones, say they just want to kidnap for money, and they end up killing the person. So you should allow the law to take its course,” he said.

ENigeria Newspaper gatherded that The Delta State Police Command‘s Raiders squad is currently detaining Destiny as they do additional investigation.
