Calum McFarlane, Chelsea’s acting manager, has downplayed worries about Enzo Fernandez’s recent trip to Madrid, which had generated new transfer rumours.
Along with the rest of the team, the Argentine midfielder was given a three-day break, and he decided to go to Spain with Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella.
When Fernandez was spotted close to Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham during the group’s attendance at the Madrid Open tennis tournament, rumours that he may join the La Liga powerhouse intensified.
Although his long-term future might be discussed this summer, the club is putting stability first as the season comes to an end, and he is still under contract until June 2032.
“We gave the lads three days off, and I think it says a lot about the group that they go away together,” McFarlane stated.
“I love the fact that they spend time together. They’ve gone to Madrid to watch tennis, so I don’t see an issue with it, honestly.”
“He was there last year with his teammates again. The last time they had a break, they spent time together as well, so I think it’s a positive sign for the unity within the group.”
Chelsea’s immediate focus is on finishing their campaign strongly, with important games against Nottingham Forest and Liverpool coming up. In addition, the club is getting ready for the FA Cup final, where they intend to win trophies following a patchy campaign.
Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid links
Enzo Fernandez has been heavily linked to Real Madrid in recent times. In addition, he had, in three occassions in interviews, that he would accept a Real Madrid move in future.
ENigeria Newspaper recalled that the former Benfica player was suspended for two games but former coach Enzo Maresca for making comments on another club while under a contract in another club.
