Kano state police has nabbed two young men who are identified as fraudsters known for invoking ‘Aljannu’ on victims through phone calls from multiple SIM cards.

On April 10, 2026, officers from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad detained Ahmad Ibrahim (24) and Isma’il Muhammad (22), both of Dandinshe Quarters, Dala Local Government Area, Kano, based on reliable information about two people who were making suspicious mobile phone calls.

When questioned, the suspects confessed to Kano state police they contacted victims using several GSM numbers while utilizing speech modulation to make their voices sound like ghosts.

They also confessed to Kano state police that they induced dread and threaten bad luck if the captives disobeyed their orders to chant specific incantations.

According to reports, 28 SIM cards were found with these two fraudsters.

Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Commissioner of Police for Kano State Police Command, praised the Kano state police officers for their quick thinking and technical proficiency. He cautioned that criminal elements are coming up with new ways to take advantage of and scam unsuspecting citizens. Mr. Bakori also urgently advised locals to be on the lookout for unsolicited calls from strangers requesting money, recitations, or charity under threats or spiritual pretexts.

They claimed to have stolen money and other items from more than 500 innocent persons using the same method.

ENigeria Newspaper, however, gathered that the investigation is on, and the Kano state police are making efforts to apprehend the syndicate’s remaining members.

“The Kano State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property. We urge members of the public to continue to partner with the Police by providing timely and credible information.

“No genuine spirit or religious injunction will request money through phone calls or threaten misfortune for non-payment. Do not share personal information, bank details, or transfer money to strangers. Report all suspicious calls immediately to the nearest Police Station.

“For emergencies or to report suspicious activities, contact the Kano State Police Command via: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926, or the “NPF Rescue Me” application,” Mr. Bakori added.
