In a widely shared video, a guy wearing President Bola Tinubu’s characteristic cap and thought to be a member of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, is seen attempting to take a picture with Peter Obi, the president’s fierce rival.
While attending the 2025 Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards in Lagos State, Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, was approached by a group of supporters who wanted to take photographs.
“My President, Peter Obi is here, everywhere stew” was shouted by the supporters in the video.
However, a man who was purportedly a supporter of Tinubu was also spotted enthusiastically chatting with the former governor of Anambra State and trying to snap a selfie with the now-ADC leader.
Nigerian on social media have now begun to react to the video. While some praise Peter Obi’s show of tolerance from a supposed political opposition, some believe that some supporters of President Tinubu would definitely vote for candidate Peter Obi if he is on the ballot in the 2027 presidential elections.
@Chichem tweeted, Infinity insignia is now a fashion not just depicting support for Tinubu.People will wear the cap and still vote another candidate.
Another user, @dozieofficial, wrote, He probably forgot he was wearing Emi lokan cap. People sometimes wear that not because they like him but because that is the new trend among family and friends.
As for @MrPrewsh, he wrote, It’s giving when a culture groups says their color is yellow and black and other people are not allowed to wear it.
@timebrevis wrote that he thinks everyones loves the personality of a candidate like Peter Obi. He wrote, We all like good things. See that man with Tinubu infinity cap is even happier than everyone there.
However, another user, with username Nigeriafirst, believed that the show a staged show. She tweeted, It’s staged. If u like make all of una wear Tinubu heart.. all this cheap gimmicks won’t work for in 2027! President Tinubu Till 2031 and a thirds term.
Peter Obi ahead of 2027 general elections
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi is currently poised to get the presidential ticket under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who joined the party two months ago. However, Peter Obi faces a supposed stiff opposition from former president of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar who seems not to be doubling down on his presidential ambitions.
ENigeria Newspaper learn that though the party has insisted that it would select a concensus candidate, supporters of Atiku Abubakar want the party to have a primary election.
