In yet another devastating incident of violence, suspected bandits have once again unleashed terror in parts of Borgu Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, leaving at least 32 farmers feared dead, scores abducted and several homes burned in a brutal series of attacks.

According to residents, the first onslaught occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Tungan‑Makeri in Konkoso Ward, where bandits launched a deadly assault around 3:00 a.m., killing six villagers. Witnesses told ENigeria Newspaper that the attackers later moved on to Konsoko and Pissa communities, where additional fatalities were recorded and buildings were razed.

“We heard gunshots sporadically,” said one resident, noting that the attackers, believed to be more than 200 in number, carried out their rampage for several hours. By about 10:00 a.m., the rampage had reportedly left 26 more people dead and numerous structures, including a local police outpost, engulfed in flames.

ENigeria Newspaper can confirm that details surrounding the full toll in Pissa (Kabe/Pissa) remain unclear as investigations continue. A community member lamented that the affected villages lie roughly 200 kilometres from the Nigerian Air Force Base in New Bussa, the headquarters of Borgu LGA, underscoring how vulnerable rural settlements remain to bandit incursions.

When reached for comment, the Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the early‑morning attack on Tungan‑Makeri.

He affirmed that six residents were killed and several homes destroyed, and that an undetermined number of people were seized by the bandits.

Abiodun explained that intelligence suggests the same suspects later moved on to Konkoso village, but added that official details of that second attack remain sketchy as of now.

He said, “On 14/2/2026 at about 6:00 a.m., a report was received indicating that at about 3:00 a.m., suspected bandits invaded Tunga‑Makeri village via Shafachi District in Borgu LGA. During the attack, six persons lost their lives, some houses were set ablaze, and a yet‑to‑be‑ascertained number of persons were abducted.

“Meanwhile, joint security teams have been mobilised to the scene for assessment, and efforts to rescue the victims are ongoing.”

The terrorists were also reported to have moved to Konkoso village, while other details remain sketchy.
