President Bola Tinubu has put forward the name of Mr. Taiwo Oyedele for appointment as Minister of State for Finance, subject to Senate confirmation, ENigeria Newspaper learnt.
The nomination was transmitted to the upper chamber on Tuesday in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
If confirmed, Oyedele will take over from Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State — her third assignment under the current administration.
Oyedele, an indigene of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, is widely known for leading the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. Under his leadership, the committee introduced sweeping changes aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax framework and improving revenue generation.
An economist and chartered accountant, the 50-year-old began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance. He later earned a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
His professional development includes executive programmes at globally respected institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele built most of his corporate career at PwC, where he worked for over two decades and rose to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
Beyond the corporate space, he is involved in academia, serving as a professor at Babcock University and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
