Residents of the Batagarawa Local Government Area and the city of Katsina are complaining about ongoing power outage.

ENigeria Newspaper gathered this in a Premium Times Exclusive report dated today, Thursday, April 16, 2026. In the report, some parts of the two local councils have been without energy for four days, while other parts have inconsistent power.

Recall that ENigeria Newspaper reported that TCN anticipation of a month-long power outage in several northern states, including Plateau, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, and Yobe, has sparked outrage and indignation. Though Katsina state is not part of the announced states to be affected, the lamentations of Katsina residents reflect a dire power supply situation unravelling in the eyes of northerners at the moment.

Locals bemoan the fact that the state’s electrical supply ought to rise rather than fall due to recent persistent heat.

“The last time we saw light in this area was on Saturday. Today is Thursday, so it has been four whole days. The heat level these last two days has been scary but what can we do”, the report quoted Rukayya Shehu, a married woman resident of NYSC camp layout in Barhim, say.

Nafiu Aminu, another NYSC camp layout resident, reported that the heat has forced him to sleep outside his home.

“Since there’s no light, I have to sleep outside but that’s also risky because we have thieves and Kauraye breaking into people’s houses to steal. Sleeping outside is dangerous but that’s the only option we have,” he said.

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company’s (KEDCO) management expressed sorry for the interruption and pledged that it will be resolved shortly. According to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), a state substation malfunction was the reason for the outage.

“The outage is as a result of a fault on 11kv incomer breaker at the 15MVA Transformer in IBB way Injection Substation”, a statment from KEDCO has read.

“Our technical team have been mobilised promptly to carry out repairs, hence the power transformer is isolated while replacement if the faulty component is ongoing,” the statement added.

Power outage problem in recent time

The power supply sector has witness a downhill surge in recent times from problems ranging from high electricity bills to incessant power outages.

Despite this, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, on Sunday, said the federal government’s dedication to fulfilling its commitments to Nigerians is demonstrated by the improvement in electricity generation over the past two weeks, from March 28 to April 10, 2026.

In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, Bolaji Tunji, Special Advisor to Adelabu on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, stated that the steady increase in generation output during the period was consistent with the minister’s pledge to improve supply within two weeks, despite the unstable electricity supply in many parts of the nation.
