Otedola Bridge inwards Lagos witnessed a massive fire last night causing heavy gridlock and leaving many stranded.
ENigeria News reports that the Otedola bridge fire was caused by a devastating tanker explosion on Tuesday night, leading to widespread destruction of properties within the area and leaving many commuters stranded.
Otedola Bridge is a major highway connecting Lagos to other parts of the country and below the bridge is a crude oil pipeline owned and serviced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), which we cannot confirm if was affected by the fire at the time of filing this report
ENigeria News reports that multiple witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with flames engulfing several vehicles and nearby buildings. HumAngle’s reporter was around the bridge when he saw the tanker explode.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, have been deployed to the scene, and efforts are ongoing to extinguish the flames and rescue those trapped in the wreckage. While the exact number of casualties is still unknown, several people were reported injured, and many vehicles were destroyed.
It has also caused a massive traffic gridlock, leaving many commuters stranded for hours. Authorities have also advised motorists to seek alternative routes.
Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, in a post on social media, said recovery efforts are ongoing.
“Due to the incident, there is currently no movement in or out of Otedola Under Bridge, resulting in a complete blockade of the area,” part of the post read.
