A father and his son received postgraduate degrees at Delta State University’s 18th convocation ceremony for the 2024–2025 academic year.
Sheriff Mulade, a Niger Delta activist and founder of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, received a Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations, while his 24-year-old son, David Sheriff-Mulade, received a Master of Science in Mass Communication.
David, who spoke with journalists after the event, which took place on Saturday at the university’s Abraka campus, expressed his utmost gratitude to his father for supporting his post-graduate studies.
“I am grateful to my father for his constant support and example.
“This achievement is a continuation of the foundation he has laid, and it will further strengthen my career in journalism and media practice,” he said.
Many have characterized the simultaneous academic accomplishment as a moment of pride, demonstrating a strong dedication to learning, leadership, and personal growth. The accomplishment, according to observers, is unparalleled in Gbaramatu Kingdom history and is evidence of commitment, quality, and a common love of study.
Chief Mulade is renowned for his contributions to Niger Delta development, peace advocacy, and environmental justice. His most recent academic achievement demonstrates his dedication to both public service and intellectual development.
He is currently the newly elected National Treasurer of the Ijaw National Congress.
