The River State House of Assembly has just got a new Speaker, Edison Ehie who is a staunch loyalist of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
ENigeria News reported earlier that the crisis in the State took to a new turn following an impeachment proceeding launched by the Rivers State House of Assembly in the early hours of Monday.
On Sunday night there was a reported explosion at the Rivers State Assembly Complex which razed down the legislative chambers. Governor Siminalayi Fubara while on his way to conduct an on-the-spot assessment said he was attacked by security agents who reportedly fired teargas and live ammunition at him.
Prior to the development, about 23 Assembly members believed to be loyalists of Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike had convened and kicked off an impeachment process against the governor before the meeting was cut short following the pandemonium that ensued. Majority of the Assembly collectively agreed and suspended House Leader, Edison Ehie on Monday morning.
However, in a twist of events, ENigeria News now understands that Edison Ehied has now been sworn in as the new Speaker of the faction of the State House of Assembly loyal to the governor.
The factional Assembly members loyal to the governor also announced the immediate suspension of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule
New Speaker Edison swung into action by immediately dissolving all the Local Government Chairmen in the State.
This comes hours after Fubara cried out that he had done nothing wrong to warrant the Rivers State House of Assembly to move for his impeachment.
The Governor is having a face-off with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, a situation, which led to the move by the lawmakers to start an impeachment process on him.
