The explosion, which happened over a fortnight ago, injured 18 people, with many suffering severe burns. The Rivers State Government has mourned the loss of life and assured that it is footing the medical bills for all the victims receiving treatment at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, confirmed that the government is bearing the cost of treatment for the victims, including medicines and other necessary care. She noted that the victims received prompt and top-notch treatment, but unfortunately, some succumbed to their injuries due to the extensive nature of their burns.

The government’s response has been welcomed by the families of the victims, who had earlier expressed concerns about the high cost of treatment. The incident has highlighted the need for improved safety measures in gas refilling shops and other hazardous facilities in the state.
