Adeolu Oreofe, who is only 14 years old, has made history on the continent by winning the 2026 African Spelling Bee Championship in the Junior Category at the competition in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe defeated competitors from more than 20 nations to win the African Spelling Bee (Junior Category) in Harare, Zimbabwe, at the age of 14.
She is from Ekiti State
Adeolu Oreofe, the young champion, hails from Ekiti and has always proudly represents the state.
She is a student of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti
The school, established on September 28, 1992 at Ilamoji Oke Ala, Ado Ekiti, played a key role in nurturing her talent and preparing her for competitions.
Consistency, not quick fame, was foundation of her success
She had several near-misses prior to her major victory, placing second and fifth in a number of tournaments between 2023 and 2025.
She participated in a number of significant spelling competitions
The MTN Spelling Bee (2023), Ekiti State Spelling Bee (2024), African Spelling Bee (2025), and Nigeria Spelling Bee (2025) are among the events she has participated in.
2026 was breakthrough for Oreofe
After winning state qualifiers and placing second nationally in Port Harcourt, she went on to dominate at the continental level.
Adeolu Oreofe is set for global stage
She received a $5,000 scholarship and the opportunity to represent Africa at the World Spelling Bee in China as a result of her triumph.
