Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected allegations by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, that he is working with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to journalists during an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja, Wike described the accusation as unfounded, insisting it reflects inconsistency on the part of the Bauchi governor.
“Why can’t we tell Nigerians the simple truth? These accusations of me being planted is not new. All those who accused me, where are they now? They’re in APC,” he said.
Wike went further to question Mohammed’s political consistency, alleging that the governor had, at different times, taken contradictory positions.
“It’s very embarrassing. He says one thing in the morning, in the afternoon he says a different thing. Nigerians are watching them,” Wike said.
He also claimed that Mohammed had previously approached him during the 2022–2023 election period with a proposal to support Tinubu, despite publicly aligning elsewhere.
“This same Bala Mohammed flew down to Port Harcourt to meet me that ‘we have to work for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’, it didn’t take days, the same man has now moved to the same Atiku”, Wike said.
On internal PDP matters, Wike dismissed Mohammed’s reported demand for the position of National Secretary, describing it as unrealistic. “You’re already conquered, you lost. You’re talking from a weak point and you want to demand secretary? That is not done,” he said.
“I have said I will not leave PDP. I will continue to support Mr. President because that has been my position from 2022 to 2023,” he stated.
He also defended the outcome of the party’s recent convention, noting that it had proven critics wrong.
“The PDP is alive and kicking,” Wike added, reiterating that he has no intention of leaving the party.
Mohammed had earlier, during an appearance on Channels Television, accused Wike of acting as a destabilising force within the PDP and working against him politically. He alleged that the FCT minister was behind legal actions and petitions against him, including those involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Bauchi governor further criticised Wike’s political stance, arguing that it is contradictory.
“You can’t be at two places at the same time. You cannot be a man and a woman at the same time. He is with them,” Mohammed had said.
