Nigerians are expressing their fury in the Facebook comment section of Opeyemi Awodoyin, a young Nigerian lady over her refusal to refund N100,000 mistakenly sent to her Opay account.

Awodoyin’s Facebook page has garnered over 5,000 comments on four posts, according to an obsevation by ENigeria Newspaper.

Awodoyin first promised to reimburse the money, but she did not. Rather, she started imposing demands and then blacklisted the sender, preventing any more correspondence.

How did Opeyemi Awodoyin get the money?

Ani Gerald Chukwuebuka, a solar system installer and sales specialist in Lagos, has described how a minor number error resulted in the incorrect transfer of N100,000 into Opeyemi Faridat Awodoyin’s OPay account and the recipient’s refusal to return the funds.

According to a preliminary report released on Wednesday by FIJ, the Foundation of Investigative Journalism, the incident happened when a friend tried to pay back a loan but sent the funds to Awodoyin’s account instead of his because of a small error in the account number.

“My own account number is 7047213096 while hers is 7047213093,” he said, noting that the mistake happened at the last digit”, FIJ quoted Chukwuebuka say.

“We were together at the time. So, he gave me his phone to put in my account details. I put it in and I forgot to check the name that appeared. He didn’t bother either, so he sent the money right away.”

When Chukwuebuka did not get a credit alert hours later, he realized the money has gone into another account and reached out to Opeyemi instantly.

“Immediately I called her, she shouted and claimed she didn’t see anything. Later, I called again, she agreed that she received the money. After a few minutes, she twisted it again and said OPay took it from her account because, according to her, she’s owing them,” he said.

“I also sent some message to her on WhatsApp yesterday and she grudgingly agreed to refund the money to me in tranches.”

“This morning, I messaged her and reminded her that I was the one who contacted her yesterday. Immediately she knew I was the one, she blocked me,” he said.

“Despite my pleas, she still refused to refund the money from her Opay and still went ahead to block me.”

Opeyemi Awodoyin comes under fire

Comments are beginning to fill Opeyemi’s Facebook page post as some Nigerians call for her arrest following her refusal to eventuall block Chukwuebuka.

Lydia Enechojo wrote, “Do well to return someone’ s hard-earend money. It pays to be kind!Just look at the disgrace you brought upon yourself. You will even get yourself arrested.”

One Micheal wrote, “What will it cost you to return the N100,000 immediately? The money entered your account, and when the owner begged you to return it, you started giving conditions. You thief. Return it, or you and peace will part ways.”

Another user, Olami Ola, wrote, “This lady doesn’t know she’s toying with jail time. Many people don’t value their freedom until it’s taken away.”

Keren Effiong commented with, “As young as you are, look at your life in public, young thief. We must post you everywhere so the world can avoid your kind.”

No comments or posts yet from Opeyemi Awodoyin and her location is not ascertained at the moment.
