It is three days since the Ibadan Summit happened and former presidential candidate and former Anambra state governor Peter Obi has not uploaded pictures and videos on his social media account.
This is particularly suprising as the former governor has always been very vocal on his pages, especially X. Rather, Obi shared pictures of himself playing tennis in Ibadan, which stands in stark contrast to the political drama that was taking place. In the same vein, Obi has refrained from comments regarding or associating with it.
On the other hand, the likes of Atiku Abubakar and Rauf Aregbesola have uploaded pictures and videos from the summit on their verified X pages.
The All Opposition Political Party Leaders summit, chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and hosted by Seyi Makinde, Oyo governor, had in attendance former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso (former governor of Kano), Rotimi Amaechi (former governor of Rivers), Peter Obi (former governor of Anambra), and other leaders.
What could be reason for Peter Obi silence?
Recall that ENigeria Newspaper reported that the communiqué of the summit read that the opposition parties have agreed to field a single presidential candidatein the 2027 elections.
However, there didn’t seem to be any discussion regarding the candidate’s region or the parties that would field a presidential and vice presidential candidate.
Consequently, Peter Obi’s personal zoning concept and even the long-standing idea of power rotation among Nigeria’s regions stand in stark contrast to this ambivalence. Any viable opposition arrangement must specifically address this issue, according to Obi and many southern stakeholders. For Peter Obi, his position is in line with southern sentiment, which maintains that the South should continue to hold the President in 2027.
This exactly might be playing against Atiku Abubakar who is a northerner and still wants to contest for presidency. Hence, there seems to be a clash of interests.
Also recall that the former LP presidential candidate claimed in December 2025 that the coalition allied with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was crumbling due to unresolved issues around zoning and the allocation of important offices.
Since then, Peter Obi has gone to visit former president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan. Also, he has gone back to Ibadan to have a meeting with Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde.
