The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 25-year-old female suspect, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly supplying ammunition to bandits operating in northern Nigeria, ENigeria Newspaper has learnt.

The suspect was intercepted at a motor park in Kano, where she was found with 200 rounds of brand-new ammunition concealed in bags of garri and rice.

According to the DSS, Nafisa Usman, a native of Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, had been transporting the ammunition from Lafia in Nasarawa State to Kankara for a bandit identified as Mallam Haruna. She was apprehended during a coordinated operation following a credible tip-off.

Investigations by the Service revealed that the suspect had been engaged in the illicit trade for approximately two months. DSS narrated that one ‘Teso,’ whom she described as working with a soldier in Lafia, used to send the ammunition to her.

Further inquiries showed that Nafisa was introduced to Haruna by a man identified as Sulaiman, a livestock trader in Kano. She also admitted supplying ammunition to other bandits in the Kankara forest, including individuals known as Buba and Abu. She reportedly confessed that she had conducted transactions worth about N5 million, supplying ammunition to Haruna and others.

The arrest, according to the DSS, demonstrates the agency’s ongoing dedication to cutting off the supply channels that enable criminal networks in northern Nigeria.

The Service continues to protect local communities by intercepting weapons and ammunition before they reach bandits through intelligence-led operations.

Nigerians are reassured by the Department that it will step up its efforts to find and eliminate anyone who is aiding illegal activity.
