Everything is ready for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) gets ready to start the national test on April 16. JAMB has confirmed that more than 2.2 million applicants are anticipated to take part.
966 approved Computer-Based Test, or CBT, centers nationwide will host the exam, which is set to run until April 22. This is because 23 centers were delisted due to subpar performance during the mock exercise.
However, there are certain costly errors many candidates still make that enable them fail to achieve their desired scores.
ENigeria Newspaper compiles seven (7) basic errors that candidates can cost you the very good and high grades that you dream of. Hence, all these mistakes that you must avoided at all costs.
Non-familiarity with the CBT system
Some students don’t know how to use the computer-based test (CBT) system for JAMB. This can make people panic, get confused, or make mistakes on the test. To avoid this, go to CBT practice sessions or use online CBT simulators to get used to the process.
Neglect of instructions
Not following the rules is a common reason why people fail JAMB. Some students don’t read the instructions on the exam screen, which can cause them to make mistakes like not turning in their answers correctly. Some people give wrong information when they sign up, which can lead to problems on the day of the test. Always read the instructions carefully and do what they say.
Improper time management
Managing your time well is very important, both when you are studying and during the test. Some students don’t make a exam schedule, which means they would not manage their time properly. If you spend too much time on one question during the test, you might not have enough time to answer the others. To avoid this, set a time tag to each question.
Poor comprehension skills
Many candidates need to learn how to understand and understand questions and answers at the same time. Students often make the mistake of not understanding ideas. JAMB tests how well you can use what you know, so memorizing facts won’t help. Instead, concentrate on comprehending the concepts thoroughly and honing your skills in applying your knowledge to resolve issues.
Overconfidence
Confidence is good, but being too confident can be bad. Some students think they know everything and don’t study important topics. Being too sure of yourself can also make you rush through the exam, which can lead to mistakes that you could have avoided. Always be humble and hard-working when you battle questions and decide answers.
Examination malpractice
Not only is it wrong, but it’s also dangerous. If you get caught using expo (leaked questions), you could be disqualified. Also, leaked questions are often fake, which means you’re not ready for the real test. Don’t cheat; instead, focus on honest study.
Worry and stress
ENigeria Newspaper reports that too much stress and anxiety can hurt your performance. If you worry too much about how the exam will turn out, it can be hard to focus or remember what you’ve learned. Relax before you punch your details to the system, breathe in and out, and calm your nerves.
