King Mohammed VI Grants Royal Pardon to Senegalese Supporters Convicted After AFCON 2025 Final Morocco over offences linked to the final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
Reacting to the development, Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe expressed gratitude to King Mohammed VI for what he described as a powerful gesture of unity and reconciliation through football.
“On behalf of the CAF Member Associations representing 54 African countries, I would like to express our deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, for granting His Royal Pardon to the Senegalese supporters convicted of offences relating to the final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025,” Motsepe said on Thursday.
In a statement sent to ENigeria Newspaper, he noted that CAF remains committed to using football as a tool to unite people across racial, ethnic, and religious divides throughout Africa and beyond. “The pardon by His Majesty King Mohammed VI is an uplifting and inspiring illustration of the power of football to unite and bring people together in Africa and across the world,” he added.
Motsepe also spoke about the longstanding relationship between Morocco and Senegal, describing himself as impressed by the historic ties shared between the two countries during recent visits. “I was amazed and deeply impressed when I was briefed about the historic and extensive ties between the people of Senegal and Morocco during my visits to both countries a few weeks ago,” he said.
The CAF President further extended his best wishes to Africa’s representatives at the FIFA World Cup 2026, including Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Ghana, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. “We are confident they will make Africa proud,” Motsepe stated.
