Despite alleged certificate forgery issue, Uche Nnaji, a former minister of innovation, science, and technology, has now switched from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Recall that Mr. Nnaji was an APC member who ran unsuccessfully for Enugu State’s governorship in 2023. However, he was rewarded with a ministerial appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the loss.
Nnaji made the declaration during a consultative and interactive workshop with his political supporters in the state. Nnaji also informed his followers that, because of his commitment to the state’s zoning system, he has chosen to serve only one term if he is elected into power.
He said: “I want to state this clearly and without any ambiguity: I will serve only one term of four years if elected governor in 2027.
“This decision is deliberate. It is based on my deep respect for the zoning structure in Enugu State, which has helped to maintain political balance, fairness and unity among our people over the years.
“I am 100 per cent committed to this arrangement. By 2031, Enugu West Senatorial District should produce the next governor, and I have no intention whatsoever to truncate or disrupt that process. Leadership should not be driven by personal ambition, but by fairness, equity and the long-term stability of our state.
“Four years is enough to lay a solid foundation that will turn Enugu into an economic and industrial powerhouse, capable of generating sustainable wealth for both indigenes and non-indigenes,” he had said.
According to people close to the former minister, he has recently been hosting political events in Enugu State with some of his fans and PDP members.
It is unclear, meanwhile, if Mr. Nnaji bought the PDP’s nomination and expression of interest forms to run in the party’s Enugu State governorship primary.
Uche Nnaji certificate forgery probe
After an exclusive investigation by Premium Times, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is looking into former Nigerian Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology Uche Nnaji for allegedly falsifying his 1985 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) degree.
ENigeria Newspaper recalled that his resignation in October 2025 resulted from UNN rejecting the certificate and claiming he did not graduate after investigations turned up inconsistencies.
