The US Secret Service Police have shot down a man whom they think might have got a gun on him at the White House just before President Donald Trump press conference.
The White House is now currently under lockdown due to the gunshot at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C.
The gunshot occurred shortly before President Donald Trump’s news conference, particularly after Vice President J.D. Vance passed by in a motorcade, according to reporters on the scene.
According to the Secret Service, the unidentified individual was shot at 15th Street SW and Independence Avenue SW close to the Washington Monument at approximately 3:30 p.m., just as Vice President JD Vance drove by.
“Our plainclothes officers and agents that consistently patrol the outer perimeter of the White House complex identified a suspicious individual that appeared to have a firearm,” Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew C. Quinn said at a news conference.
“Uniformed officers approached the individual, who tried to flee on foot before firing at the agents. They fired back, and the person was struck and taken to a hospital. Gunfire from the person struck a nearby juvenile, who did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
“We’re patrolling this area, and every site we do, 24/7, hardcore. Whether or not it was directed to the president or not, I don’t know, but we will find out”, he added.
The shooting location was being investigated, according to D.C. police, and local roadways will be stopped for a few hours. Authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s details or motivations.
ENigeria Newspaper recall that it was only just two weeks ago that a shooter attempted to kill Trump at the White House Correspondents’ dinner.
The 31-year-old suspected gunman Cole Tomas Allen has been accused of terrorist offenses.
