Controversies

Recall that ENigeria Newspaper reported that on the 13th of April, the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, claimed that reports circulating that Minister of State for Finance Taiwo Oyedele acknowledging mistakes in Nigeria’s new tax laws were false. Oyedele’s speech on the justification for the tax revisions at the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Legal Practice’s 2026 Annual Conference sparked the issue as Nigerians alleged that the former Chairman admitted to mistakes in the new tax law.
This also coincided with the Federal Government’s announcement of early benefits from its new tax changes, including a notable increase in the number of Nigerians subject to the tax system and a strong spike in business registrations.
