African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftains Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have been urged by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to join its platform and run in the 2027 elections.

The party alluded to a two-week timeframe for Obi and Kwankwaso to join its platform and win the presidential ticket in an X post on Sunday.

The party wrote, “All we need right now. Just all we need. 2 weeks to deadline.”

ENigeria Newspaper recalls that the “OK Movement” was started last week by Obi and Kwankwaso’s followers in an effort to rally support for a potential combined ticket between the two lawmakers in advance of the 2027 elections.

The movement’s national publicity secretary, Justin Ijeh, then declared that members had been appointed to the national executive council, zonal, and state organizations.

However, the ADC risk the ineligibility to run in the 2027 elections due to a leadership issue. This started when in an appeal by David Mark’s leadership against a lawsuit brought by factional chairman Nafiu Bala, the Supreme Court postponed making a decision until April 22.

Nonetheless, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) mandate that parties must submit their membership lists and designate candidates for the 2027 elections by May 30, 2026.

In response, opposition political parties urged the electoral arbiter to extend the party primary date to the end of July on Saturday. The parties include the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki, and the ADC, which is headed by Mark.

The X post by the National Democratic Party, currently headed by Seriake Dickson, is an indication that the party desires to have the duo as its presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections.

Although the odds seem to be in favour of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwanso, speculations following the Ibadan Summit held yesterday are growing around a presidential ticket that has former president Atiku Abubakar and Governor Seyi Makinde.
