United States President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening to destroy key energy infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened within two days, as tensions from the ongoing war continue to escalate.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump declared: “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST.”

The threat arises as the disruption of tanker operations across the vital canal, which is essentially closed due to Iran’s blockade, causes a rapid reaction in the world’s energy markets. Due to the strait’s significance to international trade, fuel prices have increased dramatically and oil prices have risen above $100 per barrel.

The current war, which started on February 28 when the US and Israel conducted synchronized assaults on Iran, is the source of the crisis. Since then, the conflict has escalated, with the Pentagon confirming the deaths of 13 American service members and Iranian officials reporting nearly 1,500 casualties.

Additionally, Trump has voiced his dissatisfaction with Western friends, blaming NATO nations for refusing to assist in securing the trade route.

Despite this, he minimized the strait’s direct significance to the United States and said that the problem may be resolved on its own, saying it might soon “open itself.”

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical chokepoint for global oil supply, and its continued closure has heightened fears of a prolonged economic and geopolitical crisis, with Washington now signalling a possible expansion of military targets if Iran fails to comply.
