President Bola Tinubu on Thursday arrived in Lagos to observe the Easter holiday and commission major infrastructure projects, following a condolence visit to Jos over recent killings, ENigeria Newpaper has learnt.

The President had earlier visited victims and families affected by the deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba community, assuring residents that his administration is determined to end the cycle of violence in the state.

Addressing stakeholders at a town hall, Tinubu said, “There is nothing I can give you, whether money in billions, but console you and promise you that this experience will not repeat itself. I know the pain and agony in your heart. But it’s only God who can give you joy and comfort.”

“No amount of money can pay all of you back. Yes, as a government, we will try our best to comfort you, to work with you. The best solution is for Jos to be Jos, the one that people like us grew up to know.”

“Why is the past not a source of lesson for us? Governor, you and I were elected on the promise of peace and prosperity. Not to comfort and create widows and widowers.”

“I don’t want to be here commiserating and consoling. I want to be here to establish peace,” he added, calling for unity among leaders and citizens.

Tinubu also charged security agencies to bring perpetrators to justice. “You must unearth and find the killers,” he said, commending the efforts of the armed forces and police.

As part of measures to strengthen security, he disclosed plans to deploy surveillance infrastructure, noting that his administration would ensure the installation of “a network of cameras that will help the law enforcement agencies.”

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, while appreciating the President’s visit, announced that approval had been granted for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to boost security in the state.

ENigeria Newspaper also gathered that following the visit, Tinubu departed Jos and arrived in Lagos at about 7:20 p.m., where he was received by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other top officials at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

While in Lagos, the President is expected to commission several projects executed by the state government, including the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a multi-agency complex, and a newly completed school.

“These projects reflect our commitment to development and improved living standards,” Sanwo-Olu said ahead of the inaugurations.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga added that Tinubu will also travel to Ogun State to inaugurate the Gateway International Cargo Airport and commission two commercial aircraft to support trade and logistics.

After his Lagos engagements, the President is expected to proceed on his Easter break before heading to Bayelsa State on April 10 for further project commissioning.
